Contemporary World Film Series Returns To TK Park With Guatemalan ‘September - The Silent Cry’

The highly anticipated Contemporary World Film Series is making a return to TK Park this year, starting with a powerful film from Guatemala. ‘September – The Silent Cry’ (‘Septiembre, un llanto en silencio’). Directed by Kenneth Muller, it will be screened on Saturday, 29 June 2024, at 4:00 pm. Supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Guatemala to the Kingdom of Thailand, this marks the first Guatemalan film to be shown in Thailand.

Kenneth Muller, a prominent filmmaker from Guatemala, delves into a deeply personal and tragic story of love, resilience and the human spirit. The film begins with a harrowing bomb explosion by terrorists, killing a mother and leaving her baby deaf. This fictional depiction is inspired by a real-life event on 5 September 1980, when guerrillas bombed a bus, an incident that profoundly impacted the director's family.

The film features an acclaimed actor from the region and a talented actress who immersed herself in her role by interacting with Muller's deaf brother. ‘September – The Silent Cry’ has captivated audiences at international festivals, with the Wall Street Journal praising it as "a jewel of young Latin American Cinema".

The event, hosted at TK Park’s 8th floor in Central World, Bangkok, will be introduced by HE Ms Shirley Dennise Aguilar Barrera, the ambassador of Guatemala. Attendees will enjoy Guatemalan snacks and drinks, making this an evening of cultural and cinematic celebration.

For reservations, email filmforum17@gmail.com. Tickets are priced at 20 Baht, with the auditorium opening at 3:30 pm.
