The world’s most decorated Michelin-starred chef is getting cosy on Bangkok’s culinary scene. Le Salon de l’Atelier de Joël Robuchon is a relaxed approach to sophisticated food, offering a less formal and more personal glimpse into the soul of the so-called “chef of the century”.
Located in Central Embassy, Le Salon features the same high-end sells as its successful Bangkok predecessor at MahaNakhon Cube – imaginative presentation, good service and the best ingredients – but has a more liberated casual dining experience. Opened last year, the space forgoes mood lighting and quiet refinement for buzzy ambience, with tearoom-style accoutrements and a takeaway counter offering patisserie items such as croissants and bread.
Guests can get a unique peek into what happens behind the scenes in high-end gastronomy with the restaurant’s open kitchen, offering the chance to interact with chefs as they work. While maintaining Robuchon’s trademark black lacquered tables and red leather seats, the all-day dining concept consists of a tight menu of lighter fare that doesn’t require much cooking time, ideal for business meetings, friendly hangouts and post-shopping refuelling.
The Sologne imperial caviar served in a tin layered with king crab, fennel cream and lobster meat jelly is a favourite, as are the variety of savoury crepes and dainty sandwiches made from the same fresh house-baked bread sold for takeaway. The millefeuille-inspired lobster sandwich is dressed with imperial caviar, avocado and cocktail sauce. Waffles are prepared with ale yeast-leavened batter for a delicate, crispy texture and beer-hinted zing, for which guests are free to choose their own topping scheme (highly recommended: salmon, fennel, dill and sour cream). A selection of Robuchon’s most celebrated desserts have been hand-picked for indulgent finishes, including le chocolat tendance, made with rich Araguani chocolate custard, and le parfum des îles, with caramelized banana, passion fruit cream, aged rum granité and coconut mousse.
Le Salon de l’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, open daily from 10am to 9pm, is on the ground floor of Central Embassy, Bangkok.
