Recently, HE Ms Orna Sagiv, the ambassador of Israel to Thailand, together with Mr. Vikrom Kromdit, chairman of Amata Corporation PCL, hosted an Israeli Wine Tasting Event where they introduced 23 of the finest Israeli wines from selected wineries. In attendance was a special guest from Israel, Mr Haim Gan, an Israeli wine connoisseur and founder of Grape Man Wine & Spirits Center. The event was attended by foreign ambassadors, high-ranking government officials, business associates and other dignitaries.
The wine industry in Israel has ancient roots, dating back to biblical times, thousands of years ago. The modern Israeli wine industry was founded in the 1880s by Baron Edmond James de Rothschild, owner of the famed Château Lafite-Rothschild in Bordeaux. When the State of Israel was established in 1948, the country’s wine industry consisted of 14 commercial wineries. Today, despite its tiny size, Israel has more than 300 wineries in every corner of the country, ranging in size from small boutique enterprises to large companies, with a total production of more than 40 million bottles of wine a year.
During the gathering, Ambassador Sagiv said, “Israel is known as a world leading wine producer. Our wine industry is dynamic and thriving and has received international recognition at the highest level.”
