River City Bangkok will host “Somewhere Only We Know,” the debut solo exhibition of ‘Hongtae’ Konthorn Taecholarn. Hongtae’s exhibition presents viewers with 66 paintings and monumental sculptures over three metres high, offering a journey into a realm that is part reality, part dream, part joy and part sorrow through the lens of the Cloud Heads characters.
Born in 1986, the artist has been drawing since the age of two and made headlines when he won an international art award for his drawing in Japan when he was just four years old. He has honed his artistry to this day with his work showcased in numerous group exhibitions.
A turning point in Hongtae’s artistic journey unfolded two years ago, sparked by his heartbreak, which led to him crafting a character known as ‘The Cloud-Headed Man” to represent his inner feelings.
The ‘Cloud Heads’ are beings with heads made of cloud tufts that never show their faces as they hide their expressions. Throughout the exhibition, the artist also unveils five original characters, all lined up in a mysterious sequence to form a kaleidoscope of memories to narrate the stories and relationships in the intimate space of the unregulated.
Hongtae aspires to paint his work in the hope that this sweetly melancholic universe will evoke unique and intimately personal feelings to the viewers of this exhibition.
The exhibition is open to the public from 15 March and runs until 21 April at RCB Galleria 4, 2nd floor, River City Bangkok.
