1 December - Romania's National Day

By recalling the historic act of 1 December 1918, Romanians, at home and abroad, symbolically reaffirm the maturity, strength and determination of our society to overcome even the most difficult crises, with confidence in the qualities that define us, therefore in the future, we can build together.

Today's European and Euro-Atlantic Romania, based on democratic values, is an active promoter of respect for the rules of international law and a rules-based international order. We were built on the solidarity of a nation and the contributions of generations, who have sacrificed themselves and defended the ideals of freedom, equality and justice.

The National Day has a special significance for Romania' s diplomatic missions as a moment to promote the Romanian cultural identity in host countries. Romania and the Kingdom of Thailand share enduring bonds that have passed the test of time and times.

For more than a half of century, our bilateral relations have continued to grow and diversify, encompassing political dialogue, trade, cultural and people–to–people exchanges and an increasingly diverse sectoral cooperation.

Indeed, while being proud of our achievements so far, we need to acknowledge the promising prospects ahead of us and seize the opportunities we can provide each other, stemming from our natural resources, vibrant economies and talented and creative people, as well as our countries’ profiles in our respective regions.

Thailand and Romania are well known for their rich assets such as culture, cuisine, art, music, beautiful landscapes and unique, natural heritage that can boost our cooperation despite the distance between our countries.

On this joyful occasion, my wish is that peace and prosperity prevail on Earth!
